The Polaroid Party

On Friday, January 13th Anita, Bianca, Jer and I will be volunteering at the first big party of the new year!

Oh you haven't heard? {have you been living under a rock..?}

It's the POLAROID PARTY being thrown by Team Awesome {yes, they are exactly what you think... awesome!} and partnering with imagine1day, the Dalit Freedom Network of Canada, Exe Productions, and Social City Networking of course!

All the proceeds from this party will be put towards sending children in Ethiopia and India to school via the imagine1day and Dalit Freedom Network organizations.

What is this awesome party all about??

Take 20 amazing photographers, give them polaroid cameras -
et voilĂ !
You get hundreds of fantastic polaroid pictures.

Next, sell the photographs for charity at $10 a polaroid.

Then take 100% of the proceeds from both the photos and party ticket sales {at only $10 a pop for entry and a drink!} and put it towards charity.

Throw in a fun venue = CANVAS LOUNGE

Mix in beats from a couple of Vancouver's best DJs
{a close friend of mine}
DJ YURIE and
The Freshest, DJ MARVEL

And you get...

An awesome party, for an awesome cause = an awesome way to start off 2012.

A Picture Perfect Night

FVWLxo recently attended the FASHION + SASCHA MAZZUCCO PHOTOGRAPHY CHRISTMAS BENEFIT representing Social City Networking! The event was hosted by LuvNGrace Entertainment{See our blog of the event for Social City Networking here}

The three of us ventured down to 560 together along with Caela from Social City Networking. SCN was a sponsor of the event - as with all of their projects, SCN aligns themselves with community based events and projects {which is why we love them so much!}

{photograph by Sascha Mazzucco}

Vancouver's most stylish fashion, photography, and art lovers came out to play!

The Benefit was nothing short of an art & fashion show! The event featured photography from renowned photographer Sascha Mazzucco, live painting from Capulet Art Live Painters, performances from Carol Cox, DJ Javier Rossell {a finalist in the recent Redbull DJ competition} spinning beats, and fashion from local Vancouver based designers.

The featured fashion from Jason Matlo, Jacqueline Conoir, Malene Grotrain, Carola Bun, Invito Couture, and Leone all showed their support by donating items to the silent auction.
All three of us bid on auction items including this beautiful Jason Matlo dress {fingers crossed!}

Best of all and most importantly, the entire proceeds from all items {graciously donated by all the wonderful artists} auctioned off at the Christmas benefit will be donated to the Beauty Night Society!

The Beauty Night Society is a wonderful organization founded by Caroline MacGillivray. It strives to guide and inspire the community to help build the self esteem and change the lives of women and youth living in poverty. The organization focuses on the main areas of wellness {like running programs and yoga}, life skills development {goal setting, visioning, personal budgeting}, and makeovers {shelter, health care, hair, makeup, nails}. Placing importance on these areas creates the overall potential impact of a life-makeover for women and girls in the community.

For more information and to donate or volunteer, please visit the Beauty Night Society.

Anita's feather dress was a hit - Mimi Lauzon of Fashionilla loved it!
{PS we had the chance to sit down with Mimi and chat about her upcoming project! It is absolutely amazing, look for it to launch at some point in the New Year}

Social Sisters

Spotlight:
Krista and Sara McKenna! - Social City Networking

Yesterday FVWLxo had the privilege of being introduced to {by the wonderful SCN intern Caela!} the two wonderful ladies behind Social City Networking...
Sara and Krista McKenna!!

Social City Networking is a community inspired company that provides social networking experiences, event planning services, marketing, promotions, and advertising for all types of interests and needs.

Krista and Sara are two spunky and unique individuals full of love and life - they have devoted the past year to their company and one thing is clear, for them it isn't work

The two twin sisters developed their idea with a passion and love for community as their base on which to build a platform for social networking. Their positivity and determination to make a difference in our community is beyond inspiring and motivating.

From red carpets to farmer markets, Social City Networking strives to bring together like-minded individuals by creating and providing social interactions throughout the city of Vancouver, essentially expanding personal and professional networks through providing up to date information about interesting events, causes, organizations, and businesses in our city!

Current projects of SCN include the Get Warm Project {previously blogged here} and Team Awesome which is a collection of organizations, businesses, and communities within Vancouver working to establish a connection between the larger community and new networks of people to send children to school in Ethiopia and India {look for a collabo with Team Awesome and FVWLxo soon!}

Sounds pretty awesome doesn't it?

What sets Krista, Sara, and Social City Networking apart from the crowd is that everything is community driven - all projects are community inspired, these ladies are all about giving back and inspiring others to do so! Not only that, Social City Networking donates 5% of entire company earnings to different charities that have aligned with SCN's morals and values {yeah, we were blown away too!}

 Fun Fact: Krista and Sara are twins and have a combined total of 37 tattoos! (Photo credit: Team Awesome)

Yes, these two are as fun and bubbly as they look.
Call them up for all things social in {Van}city!

Let's Get Warm

Kat here!
I was recently introduced to an amazing community based project from my close friend {and extraordinary intern at Social City Networking} Caela!

the Get Warm Project

The Get Warm Project was founded by Shauna Beaudoin and the two lovely ladies behind Social City Networking, Krista McKenna and Sara McKenna.

The major initiative of the Get Warm Project is a community-wide blanket and goods drive that strives to ensure that the members of our city will be safe and warm this winter as it gets colder out {and boy has it ever}!

There are so many ways to get involved in this project - from hosting a donation box of your own, to spreading the word about helping others "get warm," or even dropping off a blanket or two at a donation location!

Let's spread a little warmth around Vancity this winter season!
